Thursday, March 3  ~  Sydni had her stem cell implantation

1,675,000 stem cells were put in by lumbar puncture.  Sydni did very well through the procedure.  The doctors are amazing here in Germany.  Very friendly, and best of all, outstanding at their job.  We should expect to see results as soon as 10 days, and full results by 6 months.  We are so proud of Sydni and her strength through all of this.  We know that God was in the OR with Sydni at this time.

The day had begun very well, Sydni woke very happy.  She had a good healthy breakfast, and then napped before we had to leave for the hospital.  During her nap she had a seizure.  We were a little concerned of how she would be when we arrived, but the doctors scooped her up and took great care of her.

We got back to the hotel room, and had carry out pasta, which was very good.  Sydni ate like she always does......very well.  She complained of headache, which is a side effect, but not too bad.  After a bit she started watching her movies, and singing along.  It was nice to see her smiling and singing along to her movies.

Ben has been a real trooper throughout this journey.  Although he gets frustrated with Sydni at times, he really showed a lot of love for her here in Germany.  He is anxious also to see his sister improve.

We are anxious to see what comes, and the improvements to keep on going.

March 5 -  Struggling with pretty tough headaches, but the medication seemed to relax her and let her sleep.  The time difference is one issue, now the headaches are adding to it.  Sydni slept 10 hours.  By late evening we didn't have many complaints of headache.   Sydni is just getting much needed rest.  The headaches came back early morning March 6, and ended by 10am.  We have not had any complaints since.  We are so proud of her.

March 7 - We get to go home.  She has been asking about home for the past 3 days, and to get to tell her we are going was a nice feeling.  The plane ride was long, but Sydni slept the whole way!

Kim,

I hope that the stem cell procedure decreases the struggles that Sydni will face. She deserves more than this world has given her. Anytime I hear about something so hurtful happening to someone so innocent, it makes me wonder; "How can this be?" Regardless, I would like to share with you one fact of life of which I am certain. Strong families find a way to carry on. I wish your family all the strength necessary to do just that. As a friend of your family, please let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Sincerely,

Paul Ward
